hansom pilot in a wood

Soundbites

By Kate Collier
This month brings gigs from after and Hansom Pilot, a new Jamie Says video, Sorted Records and gigs at the Phoenix and the Charlotte. Keep reading to find out more...

Hansom Pilot

Local lad Ant Chalmers return to Leicester with his band Hansom Pilot to play the Mercury Showcase at the Charlotte on April 25.

Foxy and fantastic, they have been described by the Evening Standard as "Sexy, charismatic and fun, exactly what British music needs." Expect rock music with sing along choruses and plenty of on-stage chemistry.

New Jamie Says video

Staying with Sorted Records, you can check out the video of up-and-coming Leicester duo Jamie Says performing their song Rebecca on the label’s site.

The great guitar hooks will get inside your head and stay there for weeks. Their single ‘Down to the debauchery’ is now also available online.

Catch after before they hit the big time

after play a gig
after

Local band after play the Charlotte on April 30 as part of the Radio One Transit tour. Music-wise, after ARE rock 'n' roll.

They have a great set of pulse-racing and dynamic songs which are definite crowd pleasers.

The band describe themselves as refusing "to grow up and get 'proper' jobs". On the strength of their sound, they don't have to swap the guitars for an office suit just yet!

Phoenix folk

Jim Moray arrives at Phoenix Arts on April 24 with resounding critical acclaim echoing just behind him. A multi-instrumentalist, Moray’s spine-chillingly pure vocal style recently won him the coveted Radio 2 Folk Award’s Album of the year title.

If folk is not usually your cup of tea, break the mould and live a little; the Independent recently described this as "where the folk tradition turns left and hits the mainstream". Tickets are £6 and doors open at 8pm.

Sorted Records nights

Leicester label Sorted Records extend their fantastic contribution to local music with a new regular bands showcase at the Attik.

Pacific Ocean Fire
Pacific Ocean Fire

The first night will be on May 03 and features an eclectic evening’s entertainment with locals Pacific Ocean Fire and Dons Mobile Barbers to promote a split 10'' single that both bands will soon be releasing. Watch this space for further developments…
